How to Tell If a Business Idea will Succeed
By Author on Oct 26, 2010 in Business Ideas
Suppose that we are in a situation where we have found a compelling business idea, but before putting it into practice we want to know if this idea is feasible and will succeed.
For this formal way is by creating a business plan, however, before it can do a little research to know quickly if our business idea could become a profitable and successful business, or otherwise, would have to seek new business ideas.
This small research could include:
Whether there is sufficient market for our product
Before implementing our business idea, we must determine if there is enough market (consumers sufficient) for our future product or service. Maybe our business idea we seem attractive and innovative, but if we do not have enough market, our future business may not be profitable.
To find it, we visit the markets, shopping centers, or sites where to be marketed or offered similar or like our own, and consider whether there are enough consumers to them. We can also do small surveys or interviews where the questions would be aimed to ascertain whether the respondent or the respondent would be willing to consume or purchase products or services that we offer.
Making a budget
Many times the optimism for a new business, makes us forget the real investment that he may have, ignoring the need to develop a detailed budget of the future revenues and expenses of the business. This study what we do in the business plan, however, before that, we can make a quick estimate of future revenues and expenditures.
For this we consult on possible income and expenses to persons who have been or are in like or similar businesses that want to create, we can see our future competition, and an estimate of the number of consumers who have, and average expenditures made each. To calculate the expense, we can make a list of equipment and supplies that we need, visit the sites where we will acquire, and analyze prices.
Once we have an estimated total investment of the business, consider whether we have the necessary capital, or if we will have the opportunity to request a loan, either a relative or friend, or any financial institution. And then, comparing the investment with the revenue we plan to examine whether the business would be feasible and profitable.
Studying the competition
To find out if our business idea could become a profitable business, we must first analyze our future competition. Analyzing why so many like or similar businesses that want to create, there are and how competitive they are.
Maybe the market for our product or service is huge, but if there is too much competition, and this is competitive, then you probably already no room for our business.
However, even if there are enough competitors, if our product is quality, and has a good differentiation, consumers are likely to leave the competition to choose us. A good way to differentiate may be providing excellent customer service.
See if we have the knowledge and experience
To implement a new business idea, you need to have knowledge and experience in the field of business we want to create. This requires that we have had or worked on like or similar business.
However, if we do not have experience in the field of business that we create, we can compensate it with good preparation, for example, by taking a course on the subject, or if you know people who have experience in the type of business and we can help, for example, to recommend good suppliers or advise in some unfamiliar aspects.
